Interim HR Manager for European company in transition

Our client is a European company with operations in several countries. It has 500+ employees and new ownership.

The company is in the midst of extensive change and a generational shift in leadership. This is a complex, operationally driven, and highly regulated business. The pace is high, and the organization is accustomed to acting quickly to deliver a high level of service to its customers.

The Interim HR Manager will step in and take over the HR function end to end, reporting to the CEO. During a transition period, close collaboration will be required with the current HR Manager, who has in-depth knowledge of the organization and extensive knowledge of the collective bargaining agreements — essential for a stable and robust handover.

The assignment requires a candidate who can navigate the fast pace and frequent changes that characterize the industry. It calls for an experienced HR profile with the ability to lead and execute on the company's strategic objectives, while also taking a hands-on approach to day-to-day tasks.

The role is based in Greater Copenhagen, with approximately 5–8 working days per month at other locations across Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Take overall operational responsibility for the company's HR organization and drive the various HR initiatives forward

  • Lead, develop, and work closely with the existing HR team of 8, as well as hold management responsibility for other related personnel groups

  • Continue and further develop the company's Industrial Relations in close collaboration with the current HR Manager

  • Further develop HR policies, processes, and workflows to support a fast-paced organization with frequent change

  • Advise and support managers and employees on HR-related matters

  • Handle complex personnel cases, including employment law matters, with strong execution and swift decision-making

  • Leave the HR function in a stronger and more robust position than when the assignment began

Profile:

  • Experienced HR leader with a solid foundation across most HR disciplines

  • Able to discuss strategy upward while staying close enough to operations to handle tasks hands-on

  • Strong leader who can develop a team and serve as their anchor point in a time of change

  • Good people skills and strong presence to interact effectively with leaders across the organization

  • Sound judgment and the ability to remain calm and objective under pressure

  • Resilient and decisive, with experience driving multiple HR initiatives without compromising quality

  • A visible leader who combines strategic leadership with active, hands-on involvement in daily HR operations

  • Fluent, high-level English
