Interim Department Manager for Specialised Residential Facility
Our client is a private provider in the specialised social services sector. They run highly specialised residential facilities for adults with cognitive impairments who are subject to a court-ordered measure (a sentence requiring placement or supervision instead of prison). The culture is built on strong professional standards, close collegial bonds and hands-on leadership.
The current Department Manager is stepping down, so the client is looking for an experienced Interim Manager to start as soon as possible and provide stable, clear leadership.
The department is one residential service spread across several sites, all with the same target group. It has about 15 residents and about 30 employees. You divide your time between the sites and hold overall management and operational responsibility. You report to the HR Manager and will not be part of the organisation’s management team during the interim period. Day to day, you work closely with professional support staff in your own team, who handle coordination, social work interventions and case management.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the department with visible, hands-on leadership at both sites
Ensure stable operations, clear priorities and consistency in daily routines
Ensure that documentation, action plans and supervision procedures meet current guidelines and the legal framework for residents under court orders
Plan shift rosters and allocate resources efficiently across the two facilities
Maintain and further develop the strong professional culture, with a focus on well-being
Handle people management, including performance and development reviews, professional development and any recruitment
Work closely with specialist pedagogical support functions, case management and public authorities
Profile:
You are an experienced manager with a background in social education (pedagogy). You have relevant experience from specialised social services or psychiatry. You set a clear direction, while also giving your employees room to work and backing them up when needed. You are visible and involved in daily operations, and you quickly build trust within a staff group.
